I ain't voting for a closer ever if they weren't automatic (Hoffman and Rivera are my only 2 actives who merit it)

I'm kinda on the fence about Lee Smith. His numbers are a lot better than I remember him.

My comments to Krusty.....WHIP matters most to me there.

You make very good points but I think I'd still give a vote to Smith. -- nm

That's what I'm talking about. At his peak, his WHIP was 1.219. That's certainly better than I remember him. (nm)

For me, most HOF pitchers's WHIP iirc is about 1.25. But that's starting pitchers.

Why won't you vote for a closer?

There's been far too many closers who pile up huge save #'s without it meaning anything (Armando Benitez was the %-rate leader for a while)

Hell, I'd consider Billy Wagner ahead of Lee Smith.

I'd agree with that. He's another borderline candidate that I think ends up outside looking in. (nm)

Yep. Like I said, only 2 right now are Hoff & Rivera. -- nm

It's only the most over-rated position in professional sports. -- nm

I disagree, not everyone can do it, a lot of people can't take the pressure of being a closer.

Not everyone can, in the sense that not everyone can be a good MLB reliever.

No kidding. Give *any* MLB pitcher a 2-run lead with only 3 outs to get and I bet they get the job done a lot more often than not. -- nm

I misread your post, so you wouldn't vote for them unless they were automatic?

I don't really think there's any concept of save #'s to actual quality yet.
