There's been far too many closers who pile up huge save #'s without it meaning anything (Armando Benitez was the %-rate leader for a while)

Smith was never *lights out* to me; where Hoffman and Rivera have been stupendous for 10-14 years.
Smith's WHIP is 1.256 for his career. Rivera's is 1.013. Hoffman's is 1.041.
That's a huge discrepancy and leads me to believe Smith did it with quantity of opportunity instead of dominance of talent.
