I think David is right that both Fillion and Downey Jr. would be a risk for such a big role.

Neither has proven they are leading men in box office terms.

Where he's wrong is name recognition. With all the tabloid press, the rehad stints, and building a solid if up and down acting resume, most people knew who RDJ was before Iron Man. They knew his face from 25 years of films and TV.

It wasn't like the average person was saying "who is Robert Downey Jr?" 6 months before Iron Man released. They were saying "who is Iron Man?"

With Fillion, he just doesn't have the body of work yet.
