Mediamarkt Special Offer backfires

The big german electronic seller Mediamarkt (think BestBuy or something) celebrates 15 years now. They did this with a special offer. Every receipt gets a unique number, in the evening a number from 0-9 is drawn.
Every receipt that has the same digit at the end will be 100% refunded.
The analysts thought that people would buy more stuff, maybe 10 times the same item to get one refunded for sure - thus boosting sales. But who pays 10 tv sets to get one for free?

Turns out a lot of people do that.

The catch? There's a paragraph in Mediamarkt's policy that says "you can return any item within two weeks, no questions asked". So people actually DID buy 10 tv sets, got one for free and returned the other nine.

This has become a big issue now, some stores have changed to exchanging the tv sets for vouchers. They say now that you will be refunded but it doesn't say it has to be cash.

Talk about a sore loser :-)
