my cousin and I finally decided to really try to see if we could find out more about our Great Grandmother (who, by all accounts may well have been a high end call girl in Scotland, who then moved to Canada and started a new life, with her five kids, and became a nurse.)

I have to say Ancestry.com rocks. I can't believe what we've been able to find out in a short time (nothing definitive, but certainly more than we knew). My own great-aunt (grandma's sister and daughter of great grandma in question) went to Scotland, twice, when she was older to try to track things and couldn't.
