My dad's side of the family is kind of like that.

His mom got pregnant as a teenager so they did the old send her away for a while and then her mom coincidentally "happened to have a baby" even though she wasn't pregnant.

So my dad was raised by his grandparents thinking that they were his parents and that his birth mom was his sister. He didn't find out this until his birth mom, who he thought was his sister, died.

He had an idea who his birth father might have been but never knew for sure. To complicate matters, the man that he grew up thinking was his father wasn't his birth mother's father, so he's not his biological grandfather either.

That side of the family tree is a lost cause.
