it was organized (as much as chaos can be) by the players. One of the new recruits who hadn't even started class yet was at a team meeting. Orgeron called and the kid put it on speaker phone. It was Orgeron saying not to go to class so that he could easily transfer to USC. He then started talking about what a mess UT was and how the kid would be a fool to stay.
Right after, Kiffin held a team meeting to announce his decision. He was questioned on this and denied any knowledge of Orgeron trying to lure UT recruits to USC. A UT player named Ben Martin lunged at Kiffin, called him a liar and just missed decking him. Several of his friends and him left the meeting at this point and went back to the student dorm to tell other students what had happened. It escalated from there. Orgeron's behavior and Kiffin's lie were the impetus. If I'm a UT player at that meeting wherein a guy who made big promises to me before cutting and running acted like it was no big deal, I can't say I'd act any differently.
