ESPN writer on why Kiffin is a genius.

"Why would Lane Kiffin flee Knoxville for Southern California (besides the obvious)?

Perhaps it's not just a desire to relocate to the land of celebrities and beaches, but an inkling that his job at USC will be far less difficult that it would have been at Tennessee. Since Kiffin was last at USC in 2006, the SEC has been THE dominant conference in college football while the Pac-10 has been the weakest automatic-qualifying conference.

Looking at these numbers, perhaps Kiffin deduced, some would say correctly, that it will be far easier to win in the Pac-10 than in the SEC. Over the last three seasons -- during which time Kiffin has been away from USC -- the SEC has the best record of any of the automatic-qualifying conferences in non-conference games.

The Pac-10 has the worst. Even the Mountain West Conference has performed better.

Best Win Pct. vs Non-Conference Opponents

AQ conferences over the last three seasons
Conference W-L Win Pct.
SEC 135-33 .804
Big East 101-37 .732
Big 12 122-45 .731
Big Ten 106-47 .693
ACC 108-60 .643
MWC 77-46 .626
Pac-10 67-43 .609

Consider the SEC has also won four straight national titles, and Kiffin actually looks like a genius.

A little, weasley genius."
