You could try to argue that previous non-enforcement created the expectation that your behavior was illegal.


Yes, ignorance of the law is no excuse, but if the city hasn't enforced the law in years, then they've created the expectation that they wouldn't enforce it.

It's a long shot, but you might be able to get the judge to knock off a few bucks from the ticket.
