They have the option of accomplishing something and then losing in 2010 or accomplishing nothing and losing in 2010.

History suggests they'll choose the first route. But choosing the second is just about the only way they might forestall a loss in 2010.

I'm also not terribly surprised at what's happening in MA. Kennedy was an inertia vote for many. And the Dem candidate is fairly weak.
