my mom reminded me of something last night...

about 10 years ago, my parents were on a cruise and their ship was the first to dock at an island after it had been closed to ship traffic for months following a brutal hurricane.

the people there relied on the ships for the employment (tours, restaurants, etc), and they were *desperate* for money and thrilled to see the ships come back.

i can see the same sort of thing happening in haiti if the ships stopped docking.
