I think it's a fine goal to not raise your voice around your kids.

Beating yourself up about it if you do is silly though. Plus, if it's done rarely enough raising your voice can really grab their attention.

This is the thing I always think about. Prior to having kids, I though I'd never raise my voice with my kids.

When I lived with the magician and his son, he would rarely raise his voice, but explicitly apologize to the boy when he did.
