this is what i take issue with. i haven't seen him shun responsibility for any of this once. not a single word of his statements.

entering treatment for a problem can be used as an excuse, but in theory, it's the exact opposite of that. it's acknowledging flaws in yourself that caused problems and then trying to fix them. it is, almost by definition, implicitly acknowledging that what happened is your fault.
