Perhaps on this point we'll have to agree to disagree. Getting help is a conscious choice that an addict has to make in order to recover.

I don't think it oversimplifies anything. If it takes someone hitting rock bottom, that's sad, but at the end of the day, even if that's the impetus for the choice, it is still a choice made by the addict to accept help.
