I just don't want to see the Big 3 avoid bankruptcy by selling out to the Chinese. I think a bailout is preferable to that.

If there were no American owned car manufacturers, there would be no protectionist threat that the US could hold up against the rest of the world (since we would no longer own the means of supplying ourselves with cars). With that threat of shutting them out of the US market gone, there would be nothing to stop any manufacturer from shutting down US plants and moving all those jobs overseas.
Granted, that is worst case scenario, but we should look at all the risks.
I just would prefer a government bailout to be paid back to the taxpayer with an interest, and the heads of those who caused the situation on a platter. Thats all.
