- The destruction here isn't due to the strength of the quake, it was only a 7.0, it's because the buildings are so poorly built. - Ender Jan 21, 11:03 2
  - To be fair, IIRC, if the epicenter of the quake was as close to SF as it was to Port au Prince (with the ensuing aftershocks), the damage would still - musubi Jan 21, 11:06 1
    - The epicenter of the '89 quake was a bit further away, but the 89 quake was .1 bigger and still only killed 63 in a region with over 7 million people. -- nm - Ender Jan 21, 11:13
