it didn't really further the story at all. it was just kind of... there. (mild spoilers)

the worst part was his "Guide Notes" - inane side jokes that only served to break up the flow of the story. after the first 10, i just skipped over them completely.
also - there's a romance angle that's 100% cheese and completely unnecessary.
most of it was OK though.
