Seeing that it's getting good soldiers and officers kicked out isn't enough of a reason.

Considering that gays enlist knowing full well that they can get kicked out at any time and that they in more danger as a result, means they are kicking out some of their bravest to begin with. That a big percentage of them serve with honor and are some of their best and most skilled should be more than enough reason to offer them the same protection that any other soldier has.
