mostly it's a wash. both things are big successes, but theatrical hollywood is obsessed with pretending that it's as relevant or powerful as ever....

Factoring in home viewing (tv, computer, video, etc.), I'd be a little surprised if overall movie viewing/spending has gone down all that much.

in the 1940s, movies, radio, and newspapers were the only real way to get news ... and movie news was by far the most vivid of those. Correct? -- nm

great point. have to consider DVD's, movies on HBO and other TV channels, movies on computers etc -- nm
