spending on it is clearly not unimportant, but it def. has declined...

in the 40's with the US population in the 130-140 million range, there were over 90 million movie tickets sold every single week in this country. after having been chipped away at with television, videogames and the internet there is no way that movies still maintain that sort of hold on spending even with all the extra ways of consuming films now available.
