I wouldn't characterize him as a Democrat at all, but as a progressive.

Just because the Democratic party is generally the more progressive of the two, doesn't allow it to escape criticism in its own right. Greenwald's beef is primarily with the Washington establishment, be they Republican or Democrat, and I can't say I disagree with him in the slightest.
