When it starts to look unstable (about 2/3 done) get a bucket of water, dip your water proof mittens or ski gloves in it, slop some over onto the

igloo and rub your hands all over the watered area to smooth it down. It also provides a stronger base to build with. Once you have one area done, move to the opposite side so you don't end up with too much water. You can repeat this every day after it's built and your igloo will be rock hard and last up to a couple of weeks with temps flirting with 40.
