It won't flood, but if you put dishwashing soap (not dish*washer* soap) in it, you'll have bubbles and a mess everywhere.

K, that puts my concerns to rest. (The dishwasher cycle got stopped more than halfway through, but I don't know how much more)

You should run your dishwasher once a month empty, with no soap, and pour a bunch of white vinegar in the bottom of the machine and let it run.

(So, based on that ... either the dish soap breaks the seal, or lacks a thickening agent. Yeah! Dishwashers use thick water! get upset about THAT!)

Dish soap creates foam, which tends to find a way through the seal.......trust me on this :)
