My impression was it's just a story to convince Corinne. We saw Bob make the fake idol.
It's not a bad lie, but it can only last so long - if Corinne is voted out, that will be the first thing she asks Marcus
Interestingly, when Randy and Marcus waded out to throw away the second immunity idol, both had bottles, so they could have made the switch - but they weren't smart enough. And if the switch had been made either Marcus or Randy would have used it by now.
