I read up on it little and it's probably a grade II sprain, meaning it's not improper to have a doctor check it out. I'm wondering if a splice makes much of a difference - I'm beginning to notice how much use I have of this thumb, even if it's on my left hand.

Perhaps just give it a few weeks and use it as little as possible.. ?
