some are, some aren't. if you have a known quantity, like a Sparks novel, that you buy the rights to, usually you're going to make the pic yourself -- nm

But plenty of "known quality" projects are thought to be sure-fire-hits that end up flopping.

the last Sparks one, Nights In Rodanthe kind of bombed. but the risk there was spending for talent with Gere and Diane Lane -- nm
