Revanche is sweet - on Criterion
|
saw this at TIFF - at the time the hype for it in the programme was a little over the top - it's very minimalist - but still a worthy watch

Last year, Janus Films, the distributor known for bringing films by such directors as Fellini, Bergman, and Antonioni to American viewers, teamed up with the Criterion Collection to add another name to its roster: Gtz Spielmann, whose riveting Revanche the companies felt deserved a wider audience. This stunningly realized Austrian dramaa highly unpredictable mix of revenge thriller and tragic character study, concerning the devastating emotional fallout from a botched bank robberywent on to garner nearly unanimous praise, as well as an Oscar nomination for best foreign-language film. Revanche gets its hooks into you early and leaves them there, wrote Scott Foundas in the Village Voice. And Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle said Revanche was an extraordinary film. From its first moments, theres no turning away from this movie. Now Criterion is pleased to present Revanche in Blu-ray and DVD special editions.
