Though it's not like things moved all that quickly back then.
Did you know that the Society for Creative Anachronism was started by a bunch of Sci-Fi writers as a way to explore meetings of varying times, cultures and intergalatic species but kind of got hijacked by whatever faction that turned it into a force for creating Rennaissance Faires?
