and it had been nearly an hour. E and I were chatting with an older couple who came in a little after us. When our table was ready they seated us at a table for 4, but it was just us two. So I asked the couple to join us so they wouldn't need to wait any longer. They accepted.

It made the meal more enjoyable for all of us, kept them from having to wait and probably helped several others get seated more quickly as well.
