Red onions are great fresh (on salad or sandwich). I would never intentionally use them in most sauteed cooking applications, though. -- nm

- Because their flavor is milder, they lose their effect when cooked. I have used them in a pinch, though. -- nm - psilympics Feb 14, 00:34
