I believe based on our own system and reading all the surround sound is not there for 99 % of the movie

you will hear predominantly the center and front left and right

then when the powers that be think you need to hear as in Panic Room the sound coming from behind to front through the pipe that's when they'll encode or ADR it

otherwise it's normal

the same thing for the subwoofer you've got - they don't funnel a lot of sound in there as well until the moments such as Stepping into Liquid - that is when you really hear and feel the waves - it's the best sound on a DVD we've heard - although at the moment we are beginning to watch Lord of the Rings again with the opening battle scene with Isildur's Bane - you really feel the subwoofer kicking in and the surround sound
