Several things, imho, which are interrelated

1) Population: the USA is one of the most populated countries in the world, which means a bigger pool of talent.
2) Economic development: that means not only better facilities, but the ability of sportmen to live off their sport, and thus have 100% dedication to it.
3) Tradition: US has a big sporting tradition. You like to win at everything, simply.
