Fewer gerrymandered electorates would give candidates more incentive to appeal to the centre to win the election, and less to skew hard to the right

or the left in order to win the primary.
More centrist Congresspeople from both parties means more potential for consensus and compromise, which are necessary things to develop when making rules for a population as large and diverse as America's.
