I think I'm just past page 400 in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It actually got exciting. I think what makes the book work so well is (no spoils)

that, like a Dan Brown book, the scenes are set up so well you can envision the story like a movie very easily.

The slow pacing of the first half of the book is so very descriptive that by the time the action starts, it's easy to view each scene in your head.

Good stuff.
