i'd say that being an arrogant dickhead is a trait that is often helpful in becoming a good athlete...

and it's nearly always present in people who are great athletes. being an arrogant prick is exactly the sort of alpha trait that helps make you competitive enough to want to beat everyone else. the list of great athletes who are arrogant dickheads is sure a lot longer than the list of great athletes who are nice people.
