I like the line "...even though they all know my wife, they wanted to keep working with our firm." So, basically: We question Truman's judgment given that he married that woman, but we'll give him another try.
Your response should be "I was in town on business. Although I did not inquire, I was told a great deal more than I wanted to know about your present life. I'm glad to hear you're happy now. Let me know what you need to know regarding our taxes."
