I'm not saying Elton's interpretation is fact-based, but he sees someone who was presecuted for who he was and what he believed in. He looks at himself, looks at how people like himself are treated, and feels a relationship, a connection. It's perfectly natural and I don't get an attention-seeking vibe at all.

Everyone who has heard the story of Jesus makes interpretations about his life that aren't reflected in fact.
