I'm trying to figure out where the parameters are set.

All I'm arguing is that the Cubs were part of the story and a big part. And if you're going to trot out that numbers argument you are pretty much ignoring that there was more than one team in MLB baseball back then, as there is every year. The story never is the one team that wins the World Series (they aren't always even the most compelling) it's the whole season.
