It's worked in the Commonwealth Games format, but really I think it should stay there.

There's one good non-Commonwealth rugby team - France, with Italy and Argentina being decent but not competitive. Plus there's a rugby world cup. That should be enough.
Same with cricket, except there are no good non-Commonwealth teams and World Cups for both the one day and Twenty20 games.
