So today was a suck day for a lot of people.

and how it was dealt with for some people was even suckier.
Preface: I'm fine, the day is over. I've heard nothing indicating I'm out of a job, and I'd be shocked if anyone in my department was laid off, as we have more work than we know to do with. (not that this has stopped layoffs in the past, but I digress)
In fact, we have so much work, that we borrow people from other teams who come out and travel with us and participate as members of our team for an engagement. We have such people on our current engagement.
At lunch today, our lead took one of those borrowed people back to the hotel. We weren't sure why until the lead got back and informed us that the borrowed person was given notice of their layoff around 9:30am this morning.
That's right. Her manager knew she was being laid off, and let her travel here anyway. That way, she would not only have the shock, sadness, and anger of being laid off, but (as a bonus!) she'd also get the humiliation of sharing this news with people she just met, followed by the joy of traveling home.
I found out this afternoon: The other borrowed person got notice today too.
I spent half the day completely livid at the treatment of these people by their management. Who does sick, heartless shit like this? I am sickened by it.
