Regarding Google and Picnik -- I agree with Bery, the free Picnik features seem fairly useless for anything beyond the most basic things.

That's what got me started using Picasa (which is also Google's). But I quickly outgrew that as well and I'm now using Elements. Thankfully, I haven't outgrown that. I can't afford CS4.
