It's consistent with their teachings and consistent across the board. That said, it puts them further outside mainstream society

and will end up putting yet more distance between the beliefs of the "average" Catholic and the Church.

I don't think the Church will cease existing or even change its tenants, but it'll have fewer "true believers" and quite a few more lapsed Catholics.

Sooner or later they will change or become irrelevant.
