I was unsure when reading the book whether the story really needed the inclusion of the Lisbeth rape in such detail. By the end of the story, I decided that it did serve a purpose given the way things went down, but still felt the book read... somewhat awkwardly at that point, given that you're reading these things about a character that hasn't even been drawn into the major plot yet.
