Although, I think what she really wants is the whole truth, meaning something consistent and logical.

Which could be achieved in a lot of different ways, but the best and easiest way would be for him to man up, tell the whole story, answer all her questions, be totally honest, and then she won't find all these little details to pick apart. That's how restoring the trust starts. Not catching him in more lies and saying hurtful things reading e-mails to other people.
