Was the opening set of jokes by martin/baldwin supposed to be bad?

I don't really know what they were going for. It wasn't very funny, and was of the amateurish oh look George Clooney variety. I think the only time I laughed was the hitler memorabilia line, but that may not have been in the opening set. They might have been trying to appear amateurish, but it was very strange for what should be a very polished event.
Martin was a lot better by himself.
