So, we had term limits imposed on all the local politicians two years ago due to some...irregularities.

The County Commission got busted trying to subvert democracy. Term limits prevented some of them from being voted back on the council. The way they tried to get around this was by having friends and family members replace them. The worst offense is that one woman's son was nominated and selected. Three days later, it came out he had served 2 years in prison for cocaine distribution. Since then, the residents of the city have been hyper-invasive about all local politics.
The end result of all of this is that the ballot I had today included no less than four attempts by politicians to fundamentally alter the nature of voting in Knox County. They couched it in inscrutable language in order to confuse the voters into not knowing whether they would be voting for or against what they actually wanted.
One guy had taken it upon himself to wait outside. He had a table out there and literature that explained exactly what the end result would be of each change to the town charter. He also had this helpful sign: "If you aren't sure, vote no on everything. That means the bad guys can't change anything."
I thought that was so fucking cool of him. Score one for democracy.
