I just know that I had very similar injuries at that age a couple of times (same broken arm, stitches in the head). As far as why tell the story...

..She was in Calgary. I haven't seen any quotes in the couple of articles I've read now that say she went on and on about the quality of care, just that she told the story from a, "You betcha, that's kinda funny, eh?" angle.
But again I circle back, even if she said that 1960's Canadian health care was the greatest, that wouldn't disqualify her from criticizing 2010 Canadian health care which is night and day different.
