basically the first part of the game is very linear and while setting up a lot of the story, is sorta like a season of Lost

Well, for the most part every FF game has an independent story and characters, only FF X-2 was a sequel iirc.

except this game and a few more will be set in the same "universe" so they seem to spend more time setting up the mythos in this one. -- nm
