I was thinking about my thoughts on FF13, even though I posted them last night, i think they are more clarified now. gameplay spoilers I guess.

I like the battle system, possibly more than the old style. It works a lot like the very functional system from Dragon Age. You give the NPC players a role, based on a "paradigm" skill tree (think mage, tank, healer, etc). Your player also has various "paradigm" you can focus on. Then you create "paradigm shifts" which you can change at any time during a battle.

So you can have one that focuses solely on massive chain attacks. or one with a healer, a tank, and your guy as a attacker. or two attack mages and a healer, whatever.

So basically you only have to focus on quening up what your guy is doing, and making sure you have the right "shift" in play. Since you can change the shifts on the fly, that adds a totally other level of complexity to battles, espcially boss battles.

I also think I am going to like how they do special attacks, like the Bahemut (sp?) from the old games, you arent just granted that power, you have to work for it.

The visuals are very good, much better than any other RPG i have played lately. though I hate the running styles of everyone. seriously, i dont think too many people literally kick themselves in the ass when they run, or run like they are drunk all the time.

I also like that you can see, on screen, if you will be able to perform a "pre-emptive" attack, based on where the monsters are, their field of vision, etc.

My biggest complaint so far is the storytelling, its just all over the place. I get that its sorta like a season of lost, with stuff happening now and the important stuff being told by flashbacks, but it keeps you from totally understanding everyone. I also realize that most reviews say it takes 10-15 hours before you get to the point where everyone just makes sense.

i may be about 4.5 hours into the game, so that is a ways away.
