In response to "And not to be disrespectful, but I think this is a raelly good example of how individuals create their own theologies." by mara

I absolutely agree.

I have my own theology. It's a mix of everything I've come in contact with, thought about, experienced, weighed and decided on. It's ever modifying and will always be that way.

Those that follow the dogma of an organization, while I think is there right, I do not understand. You're surrendering your right to think for yourself and allowing someone to hand to you a set of precepts that will guide your life? That's not suggestive of freewill to me.

I meant to chime in yesterday regarding organized religion. I think in small groups, neighbors and communities, organized religion is by and large a tremendous force for good. I've seen it. It fosters a sense of community like few other things. It ties neighbors who know each others families together.

But once you stop being able to know the person's first name, they become distant to you. That distance then changes things and that's when the dark side of people sees vulnerability to be exploited. That's when you start to see some very evil stuff.

Community based religion is wonderful. When it spans faceless people...it has the potential for the opposite.
